Zatha Moen

–

Indianola, Iowa

Zatha Leora Moen passed from this life on November 21, 2023. Surrounded in the comfort of her home and family, she entered eternal life on her 93rd birthday.

Born in Prole, Iowa, on November 21, 1930, to Olin and Bertha Slone. Zatha attended eleven different schools in under twelve years due to her father's work during the depression era. Zatha recalled being well taken care of, never being lonely and always having her siblings to keep her company. Her journey came full circle when she returned to Iowa, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1948.

Zatha was an accomplished seamstress; successfully completing many sewing projects. Her creativity extended beyond sewing, often crafting with her daughters throughout the years. Zatha joined Joe in maintaining a large garden; the yields of which were frozen or canned for future enjoyment. She will be remembered for many of the family’s favorite main dishes and desserts.

Her work outside the home included several diverse roles over the years; including a clerk at State Auto Insurance, in the cafeteria at Indianola Community Schools and in sales at Sears in the South Ridge Mall and Montross Pharmacy on the square in Indianola.

Joe and Zatha were long time members of the Suzy Qs Square Dance Club. They also enjoyed round dancing and ballroom dancing. Zatha was a member of the Dancing Grand Dandies, a line dance group that performed in the local community. She filled many hours of the day putting jigsaw puzzles together. Zatha's life was a beautiful blend of work, passion, and family.

Her heart was always at home with her family. She and her devoted husband, Joseph Moen, embarked on their journey of love on August 11th, 1951. Their bond remained unbroken for over 72 years.

Zatha is survived by Joseph, their daughters, Lynn Moen, Leora Moen and grandsons, Nicholas and Trenton Olson. She also leaves behind her sister-in law Carolyn Slone, brother-in-law Marion and his wife Velma Moen; as well as many beloved family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father Olin Slone, mother Bertha Slone, sisters Velva Valenti and Zelpha Wilson, and brother Duane Slone.
