William Harless

William G. Harless, 90, passed away on November 3, 2022 in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, November 7, 2022, at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. A visitation will take place from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will take place at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Indianola following services.
Bill was born on October 11, 1932, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Theodore and Carrie (Holman) Harless. He attended Harlan High School. Shortly after high school Bill joined the U.S. Air Force where he worked as an airplane mechanic. He married Joyce White in 1955 while he was still in the service. Bill’s time in the Air Force sent him many places. He spent time in Kansas, Florida, Alaska, and was also deployed to England for a time. After the Air Force, Bill stayed in the aviation field for a short time working for Solar Aircraft. He eventually made his career in the rendering business until his retirement. Bill never lost his love for airplanes, but grew fond of cars. He enjoyed attending car shows and owned a ’57 Chevy. Bill lived in Martensdale for over 50 years.
Bill is survived by his children, David (Roxie) Harless and Linda Akwa; grandchildren, Wendi (Troy) Stalzer, Daniel (Angela) Harless, Justin Whitehurst, Andrew Akwa, Ashley (Josh) Watters, Mathew Akwa, Marc Schlaf, and Kat Schlaf; great-grandchildren, Patrick English, Lillian English, Landon Stalzer, Ruth Harless, Gracelynn Walde, William Harless, Nathan Schlaf, Jackson Hird, and Freya Hird; sister, Norma Jean Radloff; and a daughter in-law Sara Harless.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; a son, Michael Harless; and his siblings, Joyce, Letha, Dwaine, and Merlin.
