Twyla Davis

Twyla Lorene (Gardner) Davis age 94 of Carlisle, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Wesley on Grand in Des Moines, Iowa. Twyla’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes buried at a later date, next to her husband Norris in the Woodburn Cemetery in Woodburn, Iowa.

Twyla was born on August 9, 1932, in Woodburn, Iowa to Orville Newton and Vera Lee Gardner. She graduated from Woodburn High School in May of 1950 and later graduated from Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. Twyla taught for a time at the beauty school and continued operating a beauty shop in her homes for over 45 years. Twyla enjoyed crocheting Afghans and baking cookies for family and friends. Her greatest joy was her family. Twyla was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the T.G.G. Club, O.N.O. Club of Carlisle and the Carlisle P.E.O.

Twyla was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Vera; husband of 64 years, Norris Davis; brothers, Dean, Don, and Phil; sister, Kay Johnson.

Twyla is survived by her brother, David Gardner; children, Denny (Kathi) Davis, Rick (Mary Jo) Davis, and Denise (Kent) Barbee; grandchildren, Melissa (Jerry) Davis, Michael (Kylie) Davis, Jill (Marty) Berg, Molly (Kolton) Boyer, Sara Bugbee, Kevin (Ramie) Davis, Nate Barbee and Katie Barbee, and 8 great grandchildren.
