Sharon Kay Sayers died October 5, 2024 at Westview Care Center of Indianola.
Sharon Kay Price was born March 16, 1943 in Eldora, IA; she grew up on a farm in rural Grundy County as the adored only child of Louis and Aurella Price. She attended country school for the first few years of her education and then town school in Wellsburg, graduating with the class of 1961. Farm life was not for her; she moved to Des Moines to attend AIB in pursuit of her goal of becoming a secretary. Armed with outstanding typing (120 wpm) and shorthand skills, she worked at various clerical positions until finding one she loved, at the main branch of the Des Moines Public Library, where she worked from 1966 to 1973.
On May 3, 1973 she married Roger Sayers of Des Moines and they moved to Colorado Springs, where Roger was stationed at Fort Carson. They went from Colorado to Texas and eventually back to Iowa. The couple had two children, Daphne and Christopher, and for ten years Sharon was a stay at home mom. Following her divorce, Sharon returned to the working world at Iowa Workforce Development. She loved going to work and earned several promotions over the years. In addition to being a single mom, she remained a devoted daughter, taking care of her aging parents until the end. Besides her family, Sharon loved cars, coffee, shopping, and talking on the phone. She retired from the State of Iowa in 2010 after 26 years of service.
Sharon is survived by her children, Daphne Sayers (Julian Mott) of Carlisle, Christopher Sayers (Blanca) of Pollock Pines,CA; three grandsons: Ethan Sayers of Dallas, TX, Connor Sayers of Woodland, CA, and Jacob Mott of Carlisle. She was preceded in death by her parents.
