Ruby Laurel Hodson White was born in Indianola, Iowa, June 14, 1920 to Cash E. and Wilma M. Hodson. \r\n\r\nWhen she was very young her parents moved to rural Lincoln Township in Warren County and she lived there or in Indianola most of her life.\r\n\r\nIn 1940 she met a man whom she considered would make a "wonderful husband" and after his return from WW II they were married on November 3, 1945, at the Ackworth Friends Church in Ackworth, Iowa. To this union was born Geoffrey T. White and Richard E. White.\r\n\r\nHer greatest love was for her family - her husband who was editor of the Indianola Record Herald and other newspapers in Iowa, and for her two sons, and their families.\r\n\r\nRuby was employed by the Department of Human Services from 1939 until 1945 and as New Account Representative at Peoples Trust and Savings Bank from 1964 until 1982.\r\n\r\nAfter her retirement she was a volunteer for the Department of Human Services serving as a conservator and guardian for people with disabilities. For those efforts she was awarded with three Governor's Awards.\r\n\r\nShe was instrumental in the establishment of the Warren County Health and Homemaker Services and served as board member and as president.\r\n\r\nShe served thirty years as Treasurer of the Ackworth Cemetery Association.\r\n\r\nShe was a member of PEO Chapter NG, Ackworth Garden Club, and her Church Circle, having received a recognition pin.\r\n\r\nHer hobbies were gardening, flower arranging, sewing, and her affection for her friends.\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by husband, Richard C., daughter-in-law Vicki White, Great Grandson Christopher Garrett, and Step-mother, Ruth Hodson. \r\n\r\nShe leaves behind, children Richard E and Martha White, West Des Moines, IA, and Geoffrey and Donna White, Medford, OR, grandchildren Cindi (Brett) Garrett, Sarah (Matt) Derry, Ellie (Eric) Willhoit, and Grant (Paige) White, and five great grandchildren, and half-brother, Ralph Hodson.\r\n\r\nDue to Covid-19 the family will have a private burial service June 17, 2020.
