Roger Allen Candee made the world a better place from June 3, 1937 to May 3, 2023.\n\nHe was most proud of being:\n\n♥ Husband to Donna\n\n♥ Father to Connie, Kevin (Barb), & Kent (Lori)\n\n♥ Grandpa to Tiffany (Bryan) Nickelson, Melissa (Jerimy) Jenkins, Amanda (Chris) Walker, Tammy (Brandon) Williams, Andrew (Casey) Candee, Joshua (Layke) Candee, Zachary (Lynde) Candee, Sethian (Jessica) Candee, and Gaberial Candee\n\n♥ Great Grandpa to Journey, Jemma, Jasmine, Jameson, Aurora, Everby, Revelrie, Callan, Ayla, Grayson, Lola, Evangeline, Waylon & Witten\n\nHe was born to Lee and Ethel Candee in Decorah, Iowa. His mother died at his birth and he was raised by his Uncle Roy & Aunt Hazel, in Volga, Iowa – they were “Dad & Mom” to him. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Hinkel, on November 9, 1957. They celebrated 65 years together! Roger went to American Technical Institute in Des Moines and they moved to Fontanelle where he did radio, tv, appliance repair and laid carpet at Heiny’s TV Appliance for over 30 years.\n\nAfter Heiny’s, he worked for the Amana Colonies General Store doing appliance and furniture deliveries. Later they moved to West Union, Iowa to be closer to family and he worked at the Fayette County Courthouse until retiring. In 2003 Roger & Donna began their retirement years in Carlisle, Iowa to be closer to their kids and families.\n\nRoger was always busy helping others. He helped with building the Fontanelle United Methodist Church and spent countless hours doing all kinds of projects at Carlisle United Methodist Church. When they moved to The Village in Indianola, Roger continued being a handyman, woodworking, painting, gardening and fixing anything he thought needed it. One of his last acts was cleaning leaves out of the garden area before moving to the nursing home.\n\nRoger’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and helping others. He will be greatly missed by all. He was welcomed in heaven by his parents, sisters Janet Wilder and Pat Nus, sisters-in-law Mary Hinkel and Patty Yearous, granddaughter Allisha Candee, and many other relatives and friends.\n\n♥ There will be a Celebration of Roger’s Life on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 10:30 am at the Carlisle United Methodist Church, Carlisle, Iowa.\n\n♥ A visitation will be Tuesday, May 9, 5:00-7:00 pm, also at the church.\n\n♥ The burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in Wadena, Iowa.
