Robert (Bob) D. Darr, 85 beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at Good Samaritan Indianola Memory Lane on January 20, 2015. Visitation will be held at Peterson Funeral Home Carlisle, IA on Saturday January 24, 2015 between 9:30 am 11am, with service following at 11. Followed by burial with Military Honors at Hartford, IA Cemetery. \n\nBob was born February 2, 1929 in Berwick, IA the eighth child of Ray Sr. and Muriel Grace (Murphy) Darr. He grew up in the Easter Lake and the Hartford area. He proudly served in the US Army, in New Ulm, Germany during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He returned home, met and married Margaret (Maggie) J. James on July 7, 1956 in Leon, IA and to this union six children were born. Bob and Maggie raised their family in the Carlisle, Hartford area. Bob enjoyed hunting with his family, scrapping steel, working on old cars and tractors, but most of all holding and loving on babies. \n\nBob retired after thirty-two years from Super Valu Warehouse in Urbandale, IA. He started as a truck loader, driving semi over the road, and before retiring in 1991 he worked maintenance in the warehouse. After retiring he and Maggie traveled thirty-three states in the US visiting family, friends, National sites and also traveling to Canada and Germany. They especially enjoyed their cruise to Alaska.\n\nBob is survived by his wife of 58 years Maggie; four daughters Rene'e Johnston, Kingwood, WV; Kathy (Steve) Le Blanc, Liberty, MO; Roberta (Kevin) Deremer, Omaha, NE; Brenda (Russ) Davitt, Kansas City, MO; two sons Charlie Darr, Carlisle, IA; Bernie (Coni) Darr, Runnells, IA; and one brother Junie Darr, Indianola, IA; one sister Colleen (Bob) Thompson, Annapolis, MD; 14 grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Kenny, Ben, Brandon, Heather, Nathan, Cameron, Kyle, Rochelle, Roxanne, Chris, Erin and Alden and 12 great grandchildren Samantha, Iseah, Cheyenne, Bailey, Taylor, Ali, Amir, Madeline, Aubree, William, Hailey and Maci.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Carroll Darr, Viola Thompson, Dorothy Thompson, Elmer (Bud) Darr, Georgia Evans, Donald Darr, Victor Darr, Betty Harrington, Harry Darr and Dave Darr.\n\nMemorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association Greater Iowa Chapter 1730 28th Street West Des Moines, IA 50266 or American Legion Post 391 PO Box 14 Carlisle, IA 50047.
