Dick passed away early Sunday morning at his home in Indianola following a lengthy battle with cancer. He attended the University of Iowa; owned and operated J.J. Orr and Son furniture store and carpet business that his great grandfather, grandfather and father had also been a part of and closed it January 2012 after 106 years of business. Dick was active in the Indianola community his entire life including Indianola Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Indianola Golf and Country Club. Fraternally he was a Mason, ZA-GA-ZIG Shriner and a member of R.O.J. #46. Golfing, boating and being by the water were his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by his friend and loyal companion Barb Prather of Indianola; daughter,Suzie Orr Buerckley, son-in-law Robert Buerckley, grandaughter Alissa Orr all of rural New Providence; grandson Joe Buerckley of Urbandale; one sister Mary Hattery(Don) of Cedar Rapids and his previous wife of 32 years Sherry Orr of Knoxville along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Dorothy Orr; sister Jane Orr-Nelson and her husband Tom.

Dick's body will lie in state from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Peterson funeral home in Indianola. Memorial funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 307 W. Ashland Ave., Indianola.. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers any memorials will go to the Shrine Crippled Childrens Hospital in Minnesota.
