Clinton Rex Pegram, 86, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, Iowa, after a brief illness. Rex was born on August 12, 1927 to Benjamin and Ula (Nicholls) Pegram in Carlisle. \nRex graduated from Carlisle High School in 1945. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1945-1946, being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Carlisle American Legion Post #391. Rex started work as an installer with Western Electric in 1953 and took early retirement as a project- equipment engineer with Bell Telephone after 33 years. He also owned and operated Pegram Cleaners in Carlisle. \nThroughout his life Rex was active in his community which included: Carlisle City Council, Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scouts, American Legion, and Lake Diamond Head Community Board, many of which he served in leadership positions. Above all, he was devoted to his children and grandchildren's lives. He enjoyed attending sports activities of his grandchildren as well as keeping abreast of activities in which his great-grandchildren were involved. He took much pleasure in spending time with nieces and nephews. Rex leaves a legacy that family and extended family, including in-laws and their families, was of utmost importance. He instilled that working hard with persistence breeds success. Rex had an uncanny ability and creativity to remodel, design, and complete projects that was invaluable to his children and family. The way he lived his life modeled to meet all challenges with a positive outlook. \nRex is survived by his daughter Sheila (Marcel) Kramer, Crofton, NE; and three sons: Roger, Randy, Carlisle, IA , and Ron (Jenny), Ankeny, IA; 7 grandchildren: Nicole (Preston) Renshaw, O'Neill, NE; Chad (Shane) Kramer, Sioux Falls, SD; Jared (Darcey) Kramer, St. Paul, NE; Brett (Janel) Kramer, Wayne, NE; Reed and Ryder Pegram, Ankeny, IA; and Chilo Fredrigill, Indianola, IA.; 17 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Jaime, Benjamin, and Thomas, O'Neill, NE; Sydnee & Savanna, Sioux Falls, SD; Alexis, Samuel, Jackson, & Matthew, St. Paul, NE; Haley, Mason, & Hudson, Wayne, NE; Tucker, Devin, Cody & Caleb, Indianola, IA; and a brother Joe Pegram of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Eileen Smith, a brother Gene Pegram, and nephews: Dennis Pegram, Gene Leonard, Shannon Smith, and Job Burkhart.\nFuneral services will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Carlisle United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeffrey Frese officiating. Burial will be at the Carlisle Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #391.
