"Red" Fetters Obituary (1934

Darrell "Red" Fetters, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Darrell was born in rural Indianola, Iowa, on February 17, 1934 to Pearl Dwaine and Lois Verlee (King) Fetters. At age ten, his family moved to the Carlisle area. He was a member of the Avon Community Church. He was a self employed carpenter, truck gardener and owned Red-D-Construction. Darrell married Ruth Jean Burress on June 12, 1954 and together they raised six daughters. Darrell enjoyed his family, Bluegrass festivals, and camping, old John Deere Tractors and woodworking projects. Darrell donated his skills to many area churches and to his wife's never ending projects. Darrell designed and built the structures in the North Park Gardensmaking him an honorary member of the Carlisle Garden Club. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Ruth of Carlisle; daughters, Susan (David) Mengwasser of Pleasant Hill, Jeanne Fetters Stump of Carlisle (Kirk Stump of Creston), Joni Fetters of Indianola, Sherry (Ricky) LaValley of Carlisle, Donna (Bruce) McLaren of Indianola and Lisa Fetters Ball of Carlisle; brothers, Dwight (Karla) Fetters and Doran (Kathy) Fetters; sister in law, Sue Fetters; 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Dwaine and Lois Fetters; siblings, Dennis, Dean and Donna; granddaughter, Alexandria Fetters McLaren and Great Grandson, Creighton Howard Fetters. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. December 28 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorials can be made to Avon Community Church.
