Pauline Stella Brown
June 8, 1938 — May 4, 2026
Pauline Stella Brown, a woman who truly believed the "whole world is a stage," took her final bow on May 4, 2026. Known for her dramatic flair, her infectious energy, and a "Colgate smile" that could light up any room, Pauline lived a life defined by service, song, and an unwavering love for her family.
Born to Italian immigrant parents, Rocco and Vita Scavo, who established their roots as local farmers in the days before the industrial rise of John Deere, Pauline remained deeply proud of her heritage. Her family’s story stretched from the fields of America back to the landscapes of Badia and Sicily, Italy—a legacy of hard work and grit that she carried throughout her life.
Pauline was a fixture in her community, dedicated to helping others through her work and her faith. She spent many years in the food service industry, notably at Poppin’ Fresh Pies, and served within the school system. She also brought her signature outgoing spirit to the healthcare field, working for many years in food service and environmental services for both Lutheran and Methodist hospitals.
Outside of work, Pauline truly embraced the joys of life. She was a natural performer who loved to sing and dance, often reminding those around her of a real-life 'I Love Lucy.' She was famously a spunky firecracker who could easily wear out anyone half her age with her endless energy and spirit.
She found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life, whether she was hunting for treasures at Marshalls, people-watching, or enjoying a meal out at her favorite restaurants. Above all, Pauline had a heart for others; she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. While she adored her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent making memories with them.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Richard Mais; and her brothers, Danny Scavo and Nicky Scavo.
Her vibrant legacy is carried on by her husband, Ken Brown; and her daughters, Charlene Mais and Cheryl Cross; Stepsons Jim Brown, Larry Brown, and Mike Brown, her beloved grandchildren: Maggie Cross, Benjamin Cross (Staci), Abbie Cross, Emma Cross (Nick Griffin), Avery Cross (Maddi), and Charlie Cross. Her spark lives on in her great-grandchildren: Lexi, Kenny, Oliver, and Olyvia. She also leaves behind her brother, Philip Scavo and dear sister-in-law, Beth Scavo and many more beloved relatives and friends.
Pauline’s life was a masterclass in living out loud. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of watching her perform her favorite role: herself. As we say goodbye to a woman who gave so much of herself to others, we find comfort in these words to guide our spirits:
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" — Matthew 6:26
"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety." — Psalms 4:8
