Nancy Joy Hughes, 81, passed away on June 21, 2022 in Boone, Iowa. Funeral services for Nancy will be held on June 24 at 2 PM at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Private family Interment will take place following services at Carlisle Cemetery.\r\nNancy was born on November 25, 1940 in Carlisle, Iowa to Herman and Josephine (Andersen) McClain. She graduated from Carlisle High School. Nancy married Larry Hughes on August 5, 1961. They stayed married for almost 61 years. Nancy was a retired country shop owner and was a skilled sewing pattern designer. Following in the footsteps of her father, Nancy was an entrepreneur. Her business adventures included selling Christmas trees, selling vacuum cleaners, creating and selling pinecone wreaths, selling night crawlers, and founded Plant-a Party.\r\nNancy is survived by her husband, Larry; daughters, Amy ( Mark) Hutcheson, Andee (Randy) Duffy, and Jacquie Frick; sons, Joel (Tammy) Hughes and Jeffrey (Angie) Hughes; grandchildren, Jaye (Austin) Zlab, Nathan (Stephanie) Hutcheson, Alex (Aaron) Hixon, Samuel (Olivia) Duffy, Jenson Duffy, Tyler Hughes, Kala (Ethan) Dixon, Hannah (Andrew) Jolly, Macie Hughes, and Faith Frick; great-grandchildren, Rowan Zlab, Kendall Zlab, and Addison Zlab; and a sister, Donna Kozera (Son Brian).\r\nNancy was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandchild, Leneigh Reigh Hughes.\r\nMemorials in Nancy's name can be directed to the family.
