Mary L. Floyd, 87, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2020 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed. A link will be available at www.petersonfuneralservice.com. A visitation with family present will be held Monday, November 16, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Anybody who would like to avoid crowds can visit the funeral home from 4:00-5:00pm prior to the visitation. Burial will take place at Palmyra Cemetery. \r\nMary was born February 11, 1933 in Warren County, Iowa to Stanley and Georgia (Blake) Gildow. Mary was a life-long Carlisle resident. She graduated from Hartford High School prior it's consolidation with Carlisle. Mary work for Continental Western Insurance for 32 years. She also worked part-time for Carlisle Elementary School. Mary was active in many different groups. She was a member of the Palmyra Stitchery Club and the Rainbow Garden Club. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Carlisle. Mary loved to volunteer and give her time when needed. She volunteered at Mercy Hospice, Hope USA, and also volunteered with children's reading programs. Mary loved camping with her husband Kenneth. She enjoyed her last years at Carlisle Assisted Living, playing bingo, cards, and getting her nails done with her friends. \r\nMary is survived by her children; Ronald (Lori) Floyd, Linda (Rick) Abel, and Jerry Floyd, eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren, brother Gary (Becky) Gildow, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. \r\nMary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, and her sister and brother-in law Beverly and Kenny Haynes. \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Carlisle United Methodist Church, or Mercy Hospice.
