Marilyn Jean (Bown/Selin) Duke ? Carlisle, IA\n\nMarilyn was born on September 20, 1933 to Edna and Earl Bown. Marilyn grew up on the east side of Des Moines and attended East High School; she always remained an avid fan of EHS. \n\nMarilyn passed away on March 6, 2011 following long term health issues.\n\nMarilyn married John Herbert Selin right out of High School and to this marriage welcomed five children; the family lost Herb November, 1962.\n\nMarilyn then met her best friend and soul mate, James Duke. They were married on July 10, 1964 which united two families and 9 children. The family resided and grew up together in Carlisle. Mom and Dad devoted themselves to their family and then when they had completed those chapters in their lives they spent their time being avid supporters of the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR.\n\nMarilyn lost her soul mate four years ago and has been awaiting the day that they would be reunited in Heaven. Today our vision is of Mom and Dad again holding hands and watching over all of us!\n\nMarilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents and daughters Kathy Jo and Patty Jean.\n\nMarilyn is survived by siblings: Carolyn, Judy and Kenny; her children: John (Sherri), Linda, Barb (Les), Brian (Pam), Lorna (Bobby), Doug (Veronica) and Jeff(Mary); 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.\n\nMemorials may be made to the family towards purchase of a monument gift for Mom and Dad.\n\nFuneral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Family and friends visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment Carlisle Twsp. Cemetery.
