Margaret Ann Owen, 87, passed away on October 14, 2020 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. A graveside memorial service will take place at the Carlisle Township Cemetery on Wednesday, October 21 at 11.00 PM.\r\nMargaret was born February 28, 1933 in Carlisle, Iowa to Richard W. and Lois s. (Nickle) Sweeney. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1951. While in high school, she participated in music and sports, including 6 on 6 Basketball for the Wildcats. \r\nMargaret then graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She earned her bachelor's degree from Drake University and completed her education with a master's degree from the University of Arizona. Margaret devoted her career in nursing and health education in the Des Moines Public Schools and served as a school nurse for many years.\r\nWhile attending Drake University, Margaret met Michael Owen and they were united in marriage on May 31, 1957. They were blessed with a son Michael P. Owen. \r\nFollowing retirement, she loved gardening and canning. She was very proud of her 30 tree organic apple orchard that she planted and tended for years. \r\nMargaret is survived by her son Michael of Des Moines and her brother Robert Sweeney of Blair, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother Richard L. Sweeney. \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Margaret's name to the Alzheimer's Association or to Wesley Acres.
