Margaret (Maggie) Darr

Margaret Jean (James) Darr, 94, passed away at Valley View Village in Des Moines, IA on February 4, 2026. Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church Carlisle, IA on February 7, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM, Rosary at 10:15 AM with Catholic Mass following. Burial at Hartford, IA Cemetery. Maggie was born November 19, 1931 in Hopeville, IA to Philip Bernard James and Harriat Faye (Sumner) James. She was married to Robert (Bob) D. Darr on July 7, 1956. She worked at Bankers Life until the birth of her first daughter. She became a homemaker and raised her six children. Maggie loved tending her garden, bowling, genealogy, and Auxiliary activities. She was one of the founding members of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle. She helped to create the Carlisle girls softball league and supported her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities. Maggie and Bob enjoyed travelling in their later years. Maggie is survived by her daughters Rene’e Johnston, Ankeny, IA, Kathy (Steve) Le Blanc, Kansas City, MO, Roberta (Kevin) Deremer, Liberty, MO, Brenda (Russ) Davitt, Liberty, MO and son Bernie (Coni) Darr, Runnells, IA, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob of 58 years and her son Charlie Darr, four brothers and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, American Legion Post 391 Auxiliary or Valley View Village Bus Fund.
