Louvele Ann Sams Obituary (1916

Louvele Graham Sams, 93 Died Friday May 28, 2010 in Indianola, Iowa after living with Alzheimer's disease for an extended period. Services will be held on Saturday, June 5, at the First United Methodist Church of Indianola at 10:30 A.M.. Louvele is survived by her daughter Joyce Haworth, of River Forest, Illinois; her son-in law Robert Buck Haworth; her daughter-in-law Sharon Blake Sams of Altoona; her sister-in-law Wilma Sams of Urbandale; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan; her son Merlin; her four sisters Doris, Ruth, Elva, and Darlene and her brother Joe. Born on December 25, 1916 to Joseph and Inez Graham in Gilbert Iowa. In 1922 the family moved to Milo. After graduating from Milo High School in 1934, Louvele worked at the Milo-Motor newspaper. She continued in the newspaper business and by age 22 became a publisher and manager, of the Wellman Advance and the Riverside Leader. She had many jobs throughout her life, but she never lost her sense of humor or her newspaperman's eye for the facts. On December 26, 1941 Louvele married Ivan Sams. Within the year after getting married Ivan shipped out to Europe to serve in the Army. Louvele continued in the newspaper business until after Ivan's return from the war. When the couple started a family Louvele left the newspaper business to devote full time to her family and the church. They were married for the rest of their days, for none could replace the other in their hearts. The Methodist Church was a central part of Louvele's life from early childhood. She was devoted to the teachings of the church and active in every Methodist Church she joined. Whenever she and Ivan moved to a new community, the Methodist Church provided fellowship, community and new opportunities to serve. We shall remember Louvele for her ready smile, sense of humor, willingness to help others and sense of responsibility. But, underneath it all she was a newspaper woman her whole life. The family will receive friends at Peterson Funeral Home from 5 to 7 P.M. on Friday June 4. Interment will be at the IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Indianola next to Ivan.
