Lorna Lea Horstmann\nPleasantville, Iowa\n\nLorna Horstmann, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 12 with her family by her side.\n\nLorna was born in Oskaloosa, IA on December 6, 1937 to her parents Glenn and LaVerl Wilson. She attended Pleasantville High School and graduated in 1955. She excelled in shorthand, typing and was voted the “Most Athletic Girl”. She also was quite the horsewoman, riding and showing horses in her early days. \n\nLorna married Jerry Horstmann on May 26, 1956. In her early years she was a full time mother and housewife. Once the kids were raised she worked for VanDyne's Variety Store and then as a Legal Secretary for Myers Insurance Agency in Pleasantville. Lorna loved being a part of the team for her children at horse shows, athletic events, 4H, etc. and later on for the grandchildren as they participated in athletics, 4H, and the performing arts. Lorna had a lifelong love for all animals but especially for horses, dogs and cats. Lorna also loved the Pleasantville Trojans and the Iowa Hawkeyes. \n\nLorna is survived by her husband Jerry of Pleasantville, IA; daughter Carla (Kalon Sloan) of Mars Hill, NC; 3 sons, Kent (Mary) of Queen Creek, AZ, Greg (Teresa Stull) of Pleasantville, IA; and Brad (Angie) of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren; Chelsey Horstmann Dennis, Cory Horstmann, Heather Horstmann, Haley Horstmann, Brady Horstmann, and Abby Horstmann; a sister Shirley (Dean) Davis; 2 brother-in-laws, Burl Jr. (Barb) Horstmann and Larry (Kaye) Horstmann and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorna is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronnie Wilson.\n\nA Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4-7 pm at the home of Greg Horstmann and Teresa at 261 Geneva Drive in rural Pleasantville. Some of Lorna’s favorite snacks and sweets will be provided.
