Lois Eleanor Hale passed away at the age of 91 on July 21, 2018. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Miller and was born on October 29, 1926 in Leroy, IA. Lois had 3 siblings, Virginia, Ruth and Alfred. She graduated from Leroy High School and went on to obtain a degree in elementary education from Simpson College in Indianola where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. While attending Simpson College, she met the love of her life, William Simmons Hale. They were married on June 1, 1947 after he returned from serving in WW II. They had 3 children, Bob, Bill and Nancy. Although Bill and Lois raised their family in Indianola and thought of it as home, Lois enjoyed living in the mountains in Woodland Park, CO for a brief period before returning to Indianola to be closer to family.\n\nLois was active as a member of Pi Beta Phi Alumnae and PEO, where she served in many capacities over the years, including president. She was a hard worker and helped her father working on the farm when she was growing up. She enjoyed gardening and crafts and was an expert seamstress and cook. One of her greatest joys was making favorite recipes for her grandchildren. Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls were a favorite at Christmas.\n\nShe is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hale, brother Alfred Miller and her parents. Survivors include 3 children, Bob (Vickie) Hale of Indianola, Nancy (Bob) Bash of Des Moines and Bill (Jan) Hale of Excelsior, MN, sisters, Ruth Audelhelm of Osceola and Virginia Erickson of New Virginia, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and her faithful canine companion, Lacy.
