The Lord called Karen Kay Myers home September 20, 2020 while surrounded by loved ones following a brave battle with cancer\r\nKaren was born May 5, 1939 in Perry, Iowa to Merle and Ruth Kinney. She graduated from Minburn High School in 1957. Karen met her husband when they were in grade school and both performed in the "Singing Wheels" of Minburn, a musical production on roller skates. The high school sweethearts were married on June 15, 1958 and to this union welcomed two sons, Jeff and Matt. The family moved to the Carlisle Area in 1972.\r\nKaren worked for the Iowa Board of Parole, retiring in 2005 after 33 years of service. She was incredibly involved with Middle River Friends Church and worked on many charitable projects including CCA (Christian Community in Action). She was proud of her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hardly ever missing an opportunity to be at school activities for all of them. Her deep love for her family will be sorely missed.\r\nShe is survived by her husband, Jack; sisters: Sharon Kinney, Altoona IA, Linda (John) Koester, Des Moines, IA; sons: Jeff (Marcela) Myers, Phoenix, AZ, Matthew (Bobbie) Myers, Dawson IA; granddaughters: Melissa (Stephanie) Myers, Megan (Joe) Earley, Hayley Rankin, Sarah Myers, Madison Myers; and great-grandchildren: Alexis and Joey Earley.\r\nVisitation will Wednesday, September 23rd at Peterson's Funeral Home in Carlisle, IA. Visitation from 3 - 5 pm for persons at risk for covid-19; family will be present at visitation from 5 to 7 pm. Service for Karen will be at Middle River Friends Church in Palmyra Iowa at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 24th. Interment will follow services at the Carlisle City Cemetery.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Middle River Friends Church for Christian Community in Action.
