Joyce Moulton

Joyce Anne Moulton of Hartford, Iowa, passed away November 19, 2023 at Via of Carlisle. A funeral service for Joyce will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will start at 12:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will take place immediately following services in the Hartford Cemetery.

Joyce Anne was born on December 22, 1943, to Roy and Viola (Thompson) Chalfant in Webster City, Iowa. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1962 and played trombone in the high school band.

Joyce loved to laugh, and her smile was contagious. Twice she looked for a man with a sense humor to share her life and found true love both times.

On September 7, 1963 Joyce married her high school sweetheart Dale Eugene Shelton. Together they lived in Webster City, Lehigh, Georgia, West Germany, Woolstock, & Otho. Dale and Joyce raised 2 children together, Lisa and Richard. She enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, camping in the timber, canoeing, snowmobiling, playing 500 with close friends, getting together with family and friends, raising their children, and working in the office at Van Diest Supply and as a secretary at Webster City Federal.

On April 16, 1995, Joyce married Bob Moulton and moved to Hartford, Iowa where she stayed until moving to the Carlisle Care Center in 2018. She worked at the Hartford Carlisle Savings Bank, Norwest Bank Downtown Des Moines, Edward Jones Carlisle/Fleur offices, and Data Vision Resources LLC before retiring. Together Bob and Joyce enjoyed camping at Brushy Creek, & Lake Red Rock with Bob’s brother & sister-in-law Howard and Laura. They enjoyed going north to Minnesota in the summer and to Brownsville Texas in the winter. She especially enjoyed spending time with all their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her husband Robert of Hartford; brother James Chalfant of Webster City, sister Bethene (Wes) Nelson of Central City, daughter Lisa Shelton (Rod Wepel) of Eagle Grove; son Richard (Debbie) Shelton of Urbandale; Step daughter Sonya Gentry of Texas; Step sons Robb Moulton of Hartford and Marty (Kathy) Moulton of Alabama; Grandchildren Jonathan (Breanna) Rutledge; Alexander (Kasey) Rutledge; Bethany (Jon) Washington; GraceAnne Smith,; Faith (Harley) Burmeister; Isaac Shelton; Bryce Moulton; Brooke Moulton; Craig Gentry; Jennifer Gentry; Tanner Moulton; Tyler Moulton; Trey Moulton; Tristan Moulton; 9 great grandchildren Phoenix Rutledge, Liliana Rutledge, Timothy Frankford, Paityn Shelton, Emberlyn Asche, Barry Washington, Chayse Rutledge, Rory Rutledge, & Wesley Rutledge; Brothers and sisters in law Lynn (Collene) Shelton, Paul (Cindy) Shelton, Howard (Laura) Heemstra, Debbie Headley, Ronnie Virden, Deanna (John) Thomas, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joyce was preceded in death by: Husband Dale Shelton, Her parents Roy and Viola Chalfant, Sister Elaine Messerly, Granddaughter Michaela (Shelton) Frankford, Sisters-in-law Mary Chalfant, Joanne Shelton, Carol Shelton, Becky Shelton, Sharon Snelson, Donna Winget; Brothers-in-law Bob Shelton, Gary Shelton, Ron Shelton, Frank Messerly, & mother/father-in-law Rue & Genevieve Shelton.
