John Efferding\nI was asked to write my own obituary. I hope I can keep it true and short. I was born in Manchester, Ia. on 9-7-1941, to Stan and Velor Efferding and died on 9-30-2012, due to complications from lymphoma. I had a very happy childhood in Dubuque, IA. After High School and College, I served in the Military, stationed in Germany. I traveled whenever I could to see the sights of Europe. After leaving the Military, I continued to travel and work at temporary jobs. Finally, I returned to Iowa and got a permanent job with the USPS and helped raise two fine sons Charlie and Marc. Later, I met the love of my life, Rosie, in 1998 and we were together since. Now I had a true traveling companion. With Rosie came Desiree, then grandchildren that we both enjoyed. Life was good. But now it is over for me. May all my family and friends remember me fondly. God be with you. There will be a memorial service at Ackworth Friends Church on Wednesday, Oct 3 at 11:00 for any who wish to attend. I donated my body a long time ago to the University of Iowa Medical School. Memorials will be designated by the family.\nJohn is survived by his wife Rosie, brothers Stan and Larry Efferding, sons Charlie Schilling, his wife Kim and daughters Cassie and Sydney, Marc Yamashita and children Shea, Aidan and Reagan, stepdaughter Desiree Lagerquist and children Lauren, Bridget, and Cameron, grandchildren Liliana and Kalob.
