Joan Ruth Deaton

Joan R. Deaton of Des Moines went to be with her Lord on May 2, 2018 surrounded by loving friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd St. Des Moines, Iowa 50317. A luncheon will follow services and all are invited to join.

Joan was born on August 10, 1936 in Hampton, Iowa to Fernando and Marjorie(West)Hartwig. Joan moved several times when she growing up. Following graduation she married the love of her life, Vernon Deaton. Together they raised their son Randy in Des Moines. Joan worked as a secretary for the Des Moines Public Schools for 44 years. After retiring from Des Moines Schools she worked for Eye Care of Iowa for 18 years. Joan was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church, LWML and TOPS.

Joan is survived by her brothers, Donnie Hartwig, Kenny(Myrna)Hartwig and Larry(Diane)Hartwig; brother in law, Brock Knoll; a grandson, Drake Deaton; a granddaughter, Michaela Deaton and many, many dear friends whom were family to Joan. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon; son, Randy; and loving sister, Joyce Knoll. Memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church.
