Jerry "Jake" Lee Tugel was born on September 25, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa to Carl and Freda (Antisdel) Tugel. He passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 66.\nJake grew up in Corning, Iowa, and graduated from Corning High School. Corning always held a special place in his heart. On April 17, 1970, he married Vicky (Brown) in Corning, Iowa, and born to this marriage was a son, Derek Lee, on September 14, 1974. Jake and Vicky moved to Carlisle in 1982 and have resided in their present home for 31 years.\nJake was employed for 26 years in the tire supply and equipment business. His most recent position, as a territorial sales representative, was with Hanco Corporation. He was an avid "Hawkeye" fan, enjoyed NASCAR racing, loved playing pitch, played golf, was notorious for telling jokes, took pride in his lawn and never knew a stranger. One of his most memorable accomplishments was completing every mile on a very difficult southern, RAGBRAI route, and he also rode on several partial rides. \nJake was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, the Corning Legion Post and a member of the Iowa Tire Dealers Association. Jake was a co-leader for the UMYF; a Carlisle Booster Club member and a member of the Dollars for Scholars PEACH Club. \nSurvivors include his wife, Vicky; son, Derek; brother, Terry Tugel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; niece, Tammy Sharbuno of West Bend, Wisconsin (Tyler, Zachary, and Austin sons); nephew, Chris Tugel (Denna) (Megan daughter) of Germantown, Wisconsin; two special cousins, Nancy (Paul) Nielsen of West Des Moines, Iowa (Blythe daughter (Richard) Kendal and Carson Buffington) (Alec son); Larry (Judy) Antisdel of Corning, Iowa; mother-in law, Fern Brown of Corning, Iowa; brothers-in- law, Dick Brown (Sandy) of Wall Lake, Iowa; Bob Brown (Elinor) of Villisca, Iowa; Ron Brown of Villisca, Iowa; and Rob Ferguson of Jefferson City, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Linda Kleiman (Tom) of Kewaunee, Wisconsin; and many other nieces and nephews of the Brown family and numerous special friends.\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, his only favorite uncle and aunt, Junior and May Antisdel; his father-in-law, Russell Brown; sisters-in-laws, Joan Brown and Kristi Ferguson; and one great nephew, Aaron Brown.\nThose considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to his family for distribution to Jake's favorite charities, or the United Methodist Church. \nThe family of Jake Tugel wish to express their gratitude for all acts of kindness shown to them in their time of sorrow.
