Ila Brecht

–

Carlisle, Iowa

We celebrate the life of Ila Marie Brecht, who left us on October 11, 2026, after 80 years of life. Born on July 29, 1946, Ila was a beacon of compassion, resilience, love, and generosity, whose indomitable spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She resided in Carlisle, Iowa, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who lived her life with an unparalleled passion for family, which mattered most to her.

Ila was an accomplished educator who dedicated her early career to shaping young minds as an elementary teacher. Her adaptive nature became evident when health issues forced her to retire early from teaching. Yet, she remained ever resilient, channeling her energy into becoming a full-time housewife and mother, roles she embraced with open arms and a loving heart. Ila's life was as diverse as the interests she pursued. She was an avid bird watcher, an excellent cook, and an ardent reader. She enjoyed watching sports with her husband, Lee, playing slot machines, and going for walks. Her generosity shone through her love of cooking, where she poured her heart into every dish she prepared for her loved ones.

Ila is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Lee Brecht, her daughter Julie Huffman and her husband Kevin, her son David Brecht and his wife Michelle, her grandsons Nathan Huffman, Gavin Huffman and Walker Brecht. Ila is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Irene Kiefer, and her brothers, Gary and Ron Kiefer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 4:00-7:00pm at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Carlisle, Iowa. This will be followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10:00 am at the same venue. A luncheon will then follow at 11:00 am.

Ila's life was a testament to her resilience, compassion, love, and generosity. She touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy of love and strength. We invite you to leave memories and upload photos to Ila's memorial page. In celebrating Ila's life, we remember not just that she died, but that she lived, and that her life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
