Harold E. Lewis\n\nCarlisle\n\nHarold Lewis 88, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Taylor House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Burial with military honors will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday the evening also at the funeral home. \n\nHarold was born in Carlisle on April 11, 1923 to Pearl and Catharine (Root) Lewis. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School and went on to attend the American Institute of Business and Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Harold served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army earning three Bronze Battle Stars in the European Theatre. Harold then worked as a loan officer and Vice President for the Hartford-Carlisle Savings Bank for 31 years retiring in 1983. Harold was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and served for eight years on the Carlisle City Council. Harold loved playing golf, cards, pool and snooker and especially his Thursday night missionary meetings.\n\nHarold is survived by his children; Daniel (Pamela) Lewis of Des Moines and Lou Ann (Robert) Valentine of Pelion, SC.; five grandsons- Lance and Ryan Valentine and Ron,Shawn and Dennis Lewis; sister Beverly(Ron) Henry of Woodburn, Iowa as well as several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lillie May Tyler ; wife Helen.
