Eva Mae (Penick) Gill

–

Carlisle, Iowa

Eva Mae (Penick) Gill of Ankeny, IA passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023, just weeks shy of her 79th birthday of Alzheimer’s Disease. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Services will be held at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle on Sunday, May 7th at 1:00 pm.
Eva was born on May 24, 1944, in Puckerbrush, Iowa the daughter of Owen and Grace Penick. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1962. She worked at Maytag, IRS, Epstein Reality and Camelot Cleaners. She was very meticulous with figures and enjoyed her time doing accounting, taxes, and office management. Her last position was as the Payroll Administrator for 17 years starting in 1994 for The Graham Group Inc and retired in April of 2011. Many close friendships were made over the years from her jobs.

When Eva decided to retire, she was excited for the opportunity to babysit her grandson Max in the first 6 months of his life. Her sister Sharon would invite Eva and Max out on playdates with his cousin Zoe. She loved all her grandkids and enjoyed watching them doing things in their lives. If she knew about an event, she made sure she would be there to cheer them on whether it was driving a few hours away for a play, band concert, birthday party or soccer. She was very proud of those kids and loved them with all her heart.

Eva enjoyed meeting friends and family out for a bite to eat if she had a coupon, or if it was free pie day. She got excited over getting the newspaper for coupons and if there was a good sale at JC Penney or Kohls to go check out. Over the years when her children were younger, the family went on several family vacations. She enjoyed traveling and had been to a lot of places including Italy and cruised to Alaska.

Eva will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include: son Jeff Comstock of Ankeny; daughter Deanna (Paula) Comstock of Elkhart; son Marc (Tonya) Comstock of Hartford; grandchildren Jeffrey Comstock Jr of Des Moines; Michael Comstock of Ames; Maxwell Comstock of Carlisle; Geneva Wadle of Hartford; siblings Joyce Penick; Sharon (Jan) Saunders, and Dennis (Angie) Penick; nieces, nephews, and several friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Owen and Grace Penick; brother James Penick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle Dollars for Scholars. A second option would be to donate to The Walk to End Alzheimer’s under Team Never Forget Eva Mae or join the team and walk with us in September.

Anyone not able to attend may join via live stream on the funeral home website. The family would like to also invite those choosing not to attend the funeral in person to join them at the Scotch Ridge Cemetery for a short committal ceremony following the funeral.
