Francis "Frank" Williams passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Avon Cemetery in Avon, Iowa. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4-8 pm. with family present from 5-8 pm. at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Frank was born in rural Polk County on January 11, 1926. He was the youngest of 12 children born to James and Maude(Martin) Williams. Frank attended rural school through 8th grade and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1944. The day after graduation Frank was on his way to Farragut, Idaho for boot camp training. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Tangier. Frank attended many of his ship reunions and hosted the 25th in Des Moines in 2004. Frank was on the 1st honor flight from Des Moines to Washington DC. Frank began his career with Skelgas Division of Skelly Oil and ended as a truck equipment salesman in central and southern Iowa. Frank enjoyed his large family, baking, gardening and traveling and was on a cruise to Nova Scotia when he became ill. Frank was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Masonic Lodge. He was a volunteer fireman in Carlisle for 20 years. Francis was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, sisters Rose Carman, Gladys Bland, Roberta Heggen and Edyth Wunderlich and brothers Clyde, Virgil, Russell, Norman, Wayne, Leon and Kenneth. Frank is survived by his wife of almost 65 years Mariglee and their 4 children, Franklin(Shirley), John(DeAnna), Tom(Mary Jo) and Amy(Randy) McKern, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Jennifer and Andrew Stutsman (Madelyn, Mollie, Cody, Casey, Madison, Drew, Mallori and Marin), Jeremy and Aubrey Williams (Jayden & Jylian), Bryan and Mandy Williams (Ashley and Tate), Tommy and Ashley Williams (Dominic and Carson), Dan and Tara Williams (Grace), Jackie Williams, John Paul and Blake Williams (Charlee), Annie Williams and Rachel McKern . He is also survived by his Mother in law Tressa Bartholomew, sister in law Rita Williams and sister in law and brother in law Joyce and Bill Bender and many many nieces and nephews and friends. Memorials may be given to the Carlisle Alumni Association would be greatly appreciated.
