Don Clyde Rogers, 89, passed away on February 21, 2020 at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, IA.\r\nCremation rites have been accorded. A family visitation was held on February 23, 2020.\r\nA Celebration of Life is tentatively being planned; Time and place is pending.\r\nA private burial will be held on Monday June 1, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, IA. on what would have been Don's 90th Birthday.\r\n\r\nDon was born on June 1, 1930 to Lester and Mary (Mix) Rogers in Hartford, IA. Don graduated from Hartford High School in 1948 and began his life-long journey of driving across the United States and Canada for Blue Line Storage, H & L Enterprises and 3M. Don had traveled to most of the states and could still tell you the best route to use when traveling. After retiring, Don spent his time being a driver for Special Olympics and driving cars for Big John's Auto. Don enjoyed bowling and attended the 2010 Men's National Bowling tournament in Reno, NV. Don enjoyed spending time at Prairie Meadows and bowling with his friend Elfriede and going to Sprint Car races in Knoxville.\r\n\r\nDon is survived by his daughter Pat (Terry) Lee of Carlisle and his son Don (Nancy) Rogers II also of Carlisle; 5 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; his Sister Helene Hillestad of Buffalo, NY; many nieces and nephews and his special friend Elfriede Jackson of Urbandale, IA.\r\n\r\nDon was preceded in death by his parents, Brother and Sister-in-law Carrol and Alice Rogers, niece Zena Rogers and infant Brother James.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa or Hospice of the Midwest.\r\n\r\nA very special THANK YOU to the staff at the Carlisle Care Center and Hospice of the Midwest.
