Darlene E. Fehrer\n\nLacona\n\nDarlene Elizabeth Miller ws born April 12, 1917 to Glenn and Mae Miller near Lacona. She attended school at Lacona, graduating in 1934 as valedictorian of her class. She attended Simpson College in Indianola, graduating in 1938. She taught school at Cromwell, Iowa in 1939. \n\nOn June 1, 1940, Darlene was united in marriage to Alfred Fehrer. To this union, two children were born, Judy Ann and Jon Lee. Darlene taught school in Lacona from 1954-1959 and at Southeast Warren from 1959 until her retirement in 1977. She served as chaperone for the girls' basketball team from 1960-1977. \n\nHer hardest adjustment to retirement was the loss of involvement with her students. Her retirement years were spent enjoying activities with special friends, Maxiene Mosher and Thelma Westerly. \n\nShe is survived by daughter, Judy (Jerry) Orcutt; son, Jon (Barbara) Fehrer; grandsons, Ron, Justin (Stephanie) and Jason (Jennifer) and two great- grandchildren, Ethan and Emerson. She will be missed by her many family and friends. \n\nDarlene passed away April 2, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She will lie instate for friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Mary's Church in Lacona. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday also at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials will go to the Lacona Fire and Rescue Dept.
