'Connie' Solomon Obituary (1930 - 2013)

CONNIE OGAN SOLOMON Born and raised in Indianola, Connie was married to Gene Solomon from Edinburgh, Illinois, in 1956. Both of them were music teachers. Unfortunately Gene passed away after the family of six (twin girls and 2 younger boys) had moved to Boise, Idaho, where he died suddenly. Connie cared for her four children, moving back to Indianola to be near family. She became the founder and long time Director of the Orchestra program at the Indianola Community School System, retiring in 1992. Her four children, Julie, Jenny, Doug, and Chris have fond memories of returning to the west on summer vacations at the Triangle C dude ranch in Wyoming. They rode horses, did chores, stayed in a rustic cabin and Connie often played her violin, having majored in violin and graduating from the University of Illinois. Her four children all played string instruments. All the children were college educated and married, and when the grandchildren started to arrive, it was one of her favorite times in her life. Connie had ten grandchildren, Heidi Young, Hannah Young, Emily Young, Jessica Jensen, Benjamin Young, Nicholas Solomon, Jenna Jensen, Matthew Solomon, Ethan Solomon and Andrew Solomon, and two great grandchildren, Adriana Grace and Lily Mckenzie. She also enjoyed many nieces and nephews that were very special in her life. She was a very positive influence on many of her Students. Living close to the girls, Connie was very interested in their families and their nursing careers. The growing Solomon family always spent holidays together. Christmas Eve was special with oyster stew, eggnog and giant cinnamon rolls! When the boys visited, they, as adults, continued to watch old cowboy movies with their Mom. Connie appeared at many of her grandchildren's events. She especially enjoyed visiting her son's families. Loved the San Francisco area with all its advantages, where Doug and his family lived and was thrilled when Chris and his family moved to be much closer in Kansas. In the past week, she has had special care by her daughters, who are both nurses. And the enjoyment of her two sons visiting her - it was a lively hospital room! Connie's family had a loving, caring, intelligent, talented mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed very, very much!
