Charles William Flesher\nWest Des Moines\nCharles William Flesher, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. \nCharles was born to Fred C. Flesher and Minnie (Hess) Flesher on a farm 10 miles southwest of Indianola. He grew up on the farm and attended St. Mary's School before moving to Indianola in 1933 and graduating from Indianola High School in 1937. \nHe attended Simpson College for one year and Iowa State College where he was co-captain of the freshman football team. \nCharles wed Rosalie McKee of Indianola on June 15, 1941.\nHe was drafted into the Army on Aug. 16, 1941, and served with distinction in Italy during World War II. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant and received a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in Nov. 27, 1945.\nCharles went into business with his brother, Pat, at Fred. C. Flesher and Sons hog buyers in Indianola. He also sold real estate for Iowa Realty in Des Moines and then went on to a career in insurance with General Life of Iowa and United Republic Life Insurance Company in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.\nHe was an excellent walleye fisherman who enjoyed trips to northern Minnesota and Canada, and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. \nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie; brother, Pat; and sisters, Louise Hurtado and Virginia Benson.\nHe is survived by his son, Steven C. (Connie) Flesher; daughter, Deborah Flesher; sister, Beulah Wolfe Woody; grandchildren, Charles W. (Michelle) Flesher II, and Angela R. (Brian) Daniels; great-grandchildren Max and Sam Daniels. \nThe family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at Veterans Hospital and CLC where Charles was a patient.\nVisitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and burial will follow at Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
